This marks a complete departure from the usual format of the EXPOSED programme, taking the form of a genuine open-air group exhibition spread across twenty-six large billboards along the city streets.

The exhibition is dedicated almost exclusively to young Italian artists, together with two foreign photographers: Walter Pfeiffer – with a reference to his exhibition In Good Company, which takes place from April 30 at the Pinacoteca Agnelli – and the young Leila Erdman Tabukashvili. With them are the more established Fabio Paleari and Silvia Camporesi, as well as the younger Zoe Natale Mannella, Sara Lorusso, Federica Belli, Claudio Majorana and Camillo Pasquarelli.

The exhibition’s title is both a tribute to and a description of its main subject: it is, in fact, a tribute to Il tuffatore [The Diver], one of the best-known images by Nino Migliori, the great master of Italian photography who turns a hundred this year. At the same time, the divers, bathers and the water provide the leitmotif running through the exhibition, which aims to transform Turin’s major thoroughfares into placesof enchantment, where images of that water appear – water which is also a fundamental element of life in the Turin landscape, shaped as it is by the River Po.

Taken in various parts of Italy and around the world, the images seek to show not only places and people, but above all that desire for freedom and communion with one’s own body and that of others, inextricably bound up with the experience of water. A reality of nakedness and a metaphor for being laid bare, the exhibition encapsulates the very deepest meaning of this edition of EXPOSED.
